Payin’ My Dooz and Learnin’ the Blooz…

Me jamming at Hung One On's place; using his Statocaster 'cause I can't carry my SG!

G’day everyone!

As the next episode of the ‘Aeneid’ is slightly overdue (not that I have a set schedule, mind you, but it does seem a little late to me!), I thought I’d just post a short note to let you all know why it’s late, and what I’ve been up to lately.

As I think I mentioned over at the Pigs Arms, I sent away for a Beginners Blues Guitar course about a fortnight ago and it arrived last week; since then I’ve been busy ‘payin’ my dooz, and learning the blooz’… Now the course also has a forum and you don’t have to buy the course to sign up for a few free lessons; one of the things they do to keep us ‘beginners’ motivated is to allow us to put up recordings of our efforts using, so we can get some (hopefully constructive) criticism and/or encouragement…

Here are the links; hope you enjoy them both:

If the hypertext doesn’t work, try copying and pasting them into your browser…

  1. See you tomorrow about 1.30pm

    • Thanks Hung… and does the Pope shit in the woods? Looking forward to it, as always!

Hung, there’s another ‘file-sharing’ website I’ve discovered that you really gotta sign up with; it’s free and it could save a lot of hassle and paperwork between thee and me… called All the guys at the blues guitar website use it to upload their recordings etc… I’ve already uploaded a generous fistful; you might like to check them out.

I suppose you’d have to sign up with ’em before you can search through existing members’ folders, but once you’re a member you shouldn’t have too many problems finding me; I’m using the handle ‘Cynicure’ for my Beginners’ Blues Guitar site and theseustoo (or possibly ‘Cynicure’ too…) for 4shared, so you’ll know what to look for.

I know it sounds like a bit of a hassle, but it won’t take long and you’ll soon see the benefits in time saved. We could each upload files for the other to play along with; that way we could practice together every day… providing you can find half an hour or so each day that is; I realise it’s no problem for me, but it may well be for you… However, I really think this could speed up our progress significantly. I do hope you’ll check it out!

(You’ll have been there already anyway, to download my samplers above!)

      • Hi T2,

Sounds a good idea. I play along to our recorded jams so I can try and learn the variations in songs. Not getting as much time to play as I generally get home to late.

Hey, Phil, where are you and what are you up to these days? You still playing that banjo? And wearing the funny hats? Mate, one day I’ve promised myself to write the story about Matilda’s. I’d love to swap yarns about old times… My email address is:

I do hope you’ll get in touch again…

    • G’day Phil,Long time no see… Just in case you don’t recognize me fsrom the photo in my blog, my name is Dave Rowlands… It’d be good to get together to swap yarns about Matilda’s and its denizens; I’m planning to write the story as a book one of these days… or at least to include it in a book about my own adventures as a busker; so I do hope you’ll keep in touch. What have you been up to since I last saw you at Matilda’s? And where are you? Are you in Perth now? I’m in Adelaide… Anyway, it’s good to hear from you again, Phil; and I look forward to having a yarn or a jam… (my repertoire has increased considerably these days!)Hope to hear from you again soon!Dave:)–theseustoo

    • Hi Phil

very weird but I thought of you today. I don’t know whether you remember me: I was the Belgian girl who came to Matilda’s, in the early seventies I think it was.
      If you do remember:
